Parts Availability

Postby jeff1954 » Wed Jun 03, 2020 12:46 pm

Hi I am interested in buying a 1993 40ltr ex Japan car with 46k on the clock. Are parts for this model easy to get hold of also will this car have inboard or outboard rear brakes. Also has anyone heard anything bad about buying an imported car.

Jeff,

XJS Mechanical parts availability is pretty good both through Jaguar and aftermarket parts. Headlights are a problem for facelift cars although eventually that will get sorted (at a price!). Genuine trim parts are less available although there is a reasonable aftermarket availability for big items such as seat covers etc. As with any classic car, it's the small trip and clip items which can be difficult to source and often used items are the best way. As I said, keeping an XJS on the road, parts-wise is generally pretty easy.

As regards brakes on a 93 car, it depends on the VIN. The changepoint is in 93. If the car has the big plastic bumpers, it has outboard brakes. If it has the earlier chrome and black bumpers, then it has inboard brakes.

Hope that helps
