Protection for front wing areas

Does anyone know of an aftermarket front wheel arch plastic liner for our cars?

These were the best things I ever fitted to my MGB. After 2 years of hard use I removed them, to find the underwing areas in exactly the same superb condition as before. There was simply nowhere for the dirt and water to get in. It strikes me they would also work wonders for the XJS, which suffer in exactly the same way as the MGB from road muck blasting and rusting the wheel arch, inner wing, bonnet rail and headlight areas. They seemed to be very popular with MG owners – would anyone be interested in something similar for their XJS? I know there may be issues with access to the headlight areas, but would there be any other practical reasons why such a product could not be developed and marketed for the XJS?

Ideas anyone?

Phil,

I'm up for some of those. I had them fitted to my TR6, as you say, great idea!

There was a guy in the Triumph TR Register who developed these for the TR6 and produced them in some sort of rigid plastic. I might try and find his details and see if he's got some ideas. I also wonder if someone like Paul Banham (now of Myrtle reproductions) who has done so much work over the years on metal, fibreglass and plastic mouldings, might have some views on the practicality of this?

Good - somebody has mentioned a very good idea which would be widely adopted I'm sure. Work on it if you have any contacts in manufacturing. I have looked at my SAAB 9.5 arches and thought what a good thing if similar liners could be made for the XJS. Count me in for a set. PaulE.

Guys,
Having just found excessive corrosion present in my wheel arches/front wings, I would definitely buy a set of these! Something similar is already fitted to the XK8 we have as standard, I will check them out to see if they fit the XJS as well!

Checked XK8 dimensions against my XJS and they are too different to be interchangeable. It may be possible if anyone has contacts, to get some made up with a plastics moudling company but the cost would be prohibitive unless the order was for a lot, due to original moulding costs.
Anyone got any other ideas?

Ashley
