Thanks Paul - have 1 on order now and will get the app.

Car appears to be behaving itself at the moment, but the temp gauge no longer works, which is irritating.

Interestingly the passenger door appears to have dropped slightly and there's a slight clunk when opening it now. Maybe being on the hydraulic ramp for long periods hasn't done it any good and the car's now bent :-) Also found a deep scuff on the front bumper which I've had to sort.

Yes deffo moving on from my garage and have some candidates, albeit further away.

Richard,

Some of the plugin suppliers seem to be providing the Torque Pro App with the plugin, so although it's only a couple of quid, just hold fire on purchasing the app until after you get the plugin.

After using a few of these cheap plugins, I found that some of the mini V2.1 ones sometimes don't work as well as a larger V1.5 one. If you have ordered a V2.1 and can't get it to work properly, don't despair but you need to repurchase a V1.5 version.

Cheers

Paul

PS Is the door problem an alignment issue with the lock or is the noise coming from the hinge area?

Thanks Paul.

Re the door - yes looking today I think it's from the lock area.

Got the plugin and downloaded the app at great expense - you're right it did come with it's own app, but I rushed ahead and not to worry as I prefer the user interface of the 'paid for' one, so all good.

After some faffing around trying to get my S7 to connect, I successfully saw the revs etc accurately displayed on my phone - did a fault check and nothing to report - that's either a good thing or it's not picking up. Hoping the former. Either way, it's a nice little gadget.

Took car out today and all good still - downside is that when I take them out, the children (12 and 14) are now moaning that they hate it as they are now struggling to avoid cramp when sitting in the back. I suspect the wife will now be in the back and the 14 year old in the front, but apparently even that's rubbish. The XF is now the preferred choice for them - they just aren't getting it. Just reminds me of your daughter on the LtoB run a few years back - I seem to recall that she wasn't overly amused with being your passenger...

One of the reasons why my XJ40 is now the car of choice for any weekends away or long-distance events. The boys (6 and 10 - n.b. can't believe that yours are now 12 and 14!) can only hack a couple of hours max before they threaten me with calls to Child Line as a direct consequence of extreme discomfort sitting in the rear of the XJS. In fairness, my drivers seat sits flush with the rear bench so zero leg room!!!

Well in my defence, the coupe interior capacity did get better - my previous XJS ('91) had less leg room in the back, but due to the changed design on the backseats where they drop down rather than stick out. On the later facelifts, there is more space and an adult can fit, albeit uncomfortably. Well that's my opinion anyway and they can get on with it :-)

Richard,

Sadly, I expect that was more her dissatisfaction with the driver rather than the car....

Just to show how quickly time passes, I picked her up from university yesterday for the Easter break. I'm even tempted to see how much additional premium to put her as a 19-year old additional driver on the insurance for the XJS. It seems I might be the one sitting in the back soon...

With that new Footman James Young Classic Driver scheme (if its still going) - that might not sound as outrageous as you might think... assuming that you are insured with Footman James. A comfy front seat passenger ride over a long distance whilst you are convalescing from any post-surgery / physio might be an attractive proposition.

Sue refuses to drive the XJS since it was converted to manual transmission and the boys are obviously way too young so I don't have the option of being chauffeured around (except in the XJ40).

Hope you have now fixed your car. Gendan software will work on OBD2 port, just click the unrecognised box on the front page, then reboot it. Your problem, how to fix it. Clean the swirl pot filter and tank, replace the pipes. Fit a new carbon filter in the top of the fuel tank under the filler cap. There are two little fuses in the leads under the battery, if they are corroded, as might be the battery earth in the floor, the fuel pump stops, been there. Next, there is a big bunch of connectors under the scuttle which join up the engine loom, carefully spray WD40 in it and wiggle about to get the thing apart. You will pobably have to remake the whole thing again. Its a good place to look for any AJ16 engined car. The cruise control system is another pig, if the clutch malfunctions, it blows out the Traction Control Module. Take the fuses out, you do not need cruise control with all the silly speed limits about. If in doubt, give it a good kicking, it always works on Telly. Have fun. I always carry a few spare bits, fence wire, pliers, gaffer tape, nut and bolt to fix a puncture. I have even seen punctures fixed by stuffing the tyre with straw. Hope you get sorted.

Richard,

Just in case you get confused when looking for it, there's no swirl pot system on an AJ16 xjs.

Hope all is going well.
