Hi all

Until recently I had a RHD 1995 Celebration, with wipers parked on the right. I now had a LHD 1996 Celebration with wipers parked on the left, suggesting that on the later models as least, they park in front of the driver, wherever he sits!

Paul, I've just looked at a photo of your car, and the wipers appear to be parked on the right, in front of you?!?
Regards,

Keith.

Some years ago at an XJS seminar at Browns Lane I wandered round the car park with Dave Marks discussing this topic. Our conclusion was that there is NO logic behind wiper parking on the XJS, it really was a random on the day build thing.

Keith,

You're absolutely right about my car! How bizarre! I must have been thinking about my Range Rover or x350 both of which have left-parking wipers.

I think the conclusion is, as Tony says, there is no logic as to how each car was built! We need to find someone who worked on the production line to get the definitive answer!

I think this is one of those moments when you realise that everything you think you know is wrong!, :?
I think that I'll get the spanners out and have a closer look at my 2 cars then report back!

OK - I've now had a closer look at my 2 cars.
The 1989 car does have an Electrolux motor set. The label has an Electrolux logo on the top right and the part number DAC5504 RH on the bottom. The part number (DAC5504) is listed on the Jaguar Classic Parts website as being for a RHD drive between chassis number 152511 and 154405 with 3mm tubing. However, my car's chassis number is after this! There is a later one listed (DAC6982) from chassis number 155406 which apparently has 4mm tubing.
Just to add a little more fun into this thread, there is also a LHD equivalent listed for both of these (DAC5505 and DAC6981). Is it reasonable to assume that these park on the opposite side?

I did take some photos but the technology got the better of me when I tried to upload them - something to do with too may pixels or some such. Why can't computers just work?!!!

As for the Celebration, that is completely different. The top grill is a separate unit that comes off first to reveal the motor and mechanism which then comes out easily enough. The earlier car has the grill, motor and mechanism all as one. I couldn't find a reference to a manufacturer on it but I think I read somewhere that it was Marelli for all the facelift models. Again, Jaguar Classic Parts list both LHD and RHD versions. The plugs are different with the earlier car having an oval type plug and the later car a round one.

I don't know if I've clarified anything or just added another level of confusion!!
Happy days
David

Mine too. My 1992 wipers parked to the left. My 1994 AJ16 park to the right. Also. I have a friend who has a LHD AJ16 and his park to the left.

Think it all makes sense.
