I've been a fan of Jaguars since the age of five (my earliest memory of things Jaguar is sitting on my father's knee, steering his BRG Mark 2), it took me another 35 years to get my first one a couple of years ago - a 3.0L X-type in BRG. A really fun car, and IMHO truly in the spirit of the Mark 2 - a small sporty saloon - just what I needed to kick off my mid life crisis
This year, the Jaguar itch came back again when I played a small part in helping a pal find his dream XJ-S 3.6. Until then I hadn't realised just how good the XJ-S is. With this new found knowledge and a deal of enthusiastic encouragement from the same pal (thank you SimonR), the itch got worse. It finally got scratched two weekends ago when I succumbed and fell for an '89 XJR-S 6.0 in BRG (I'm beginning to spot a pattern here...). Only 39K on the clock and in unmolested condition.
We picked it up last Saturday and took great pleasure in taking it back to Brown's lane on Sunday for the Andrew Whyte Memorial lecture. Sadly, the trip proved too much for the old girl and she developed an intermittent ignition fault on the way home. As a result she's still parked on my pal's driveway while we've been diagnosing the problem.
I am really pleased we have this forum; I have a feeling I'll be needing quite a bit of help with the XJR-S...
I'll put a separate post up for the ignition problems I'm having.
regards to all.
