Dash fault

The electronic Dash on my 1989 XJ40 Jaguar Sovereign has failed it was working fine displaying all the indications, however the fault display on the right hand side was flashing up continuously with all sorts of warnings. I took the dash apart and checked the Capacitors one had failed. I replaced the capacitor and dash but now it does not work at all. Is there anyone that has had a similar experience or could offer some help?

sadly an all to common fault on early XJ40

possibly the way round it is to source a used dash pod and swap the whole thing over

agree, very common fault on the few surviving 3.6 XJ40.
I have not tried it myself yet (only a matter of time though), but i have heard some people have managed to revive the dash display by resoldering the entire unit. takes patient and some soldering skills. nothing to loose by having a go?

Still trying to sort out the issue with the Electronic dash with no success so have bought an analogue dash direct swap as I thought all the connectors are different. Has anyone attempted this swap if I cut off the electronic dash electrical connectors and join the same colour wires together, is the wiring loom colours the same so that the analogue dash will work?

am not sure its as simple as that.

i have heard of one owner managing this but its takes significant electrical skills to mate everything up. far simpler to resolder the original unit.
i would suggest trying to find an electronics repair shop, that do computers/ TVs etc, maybe they will be willing to take it on?
Am not sure where you are based, but an internet search might yield some local shops that could help?

oooh noooo, DO NOT try and do this, Digi dash and Analogue just will not swap over, the electronic architecture of the two cars is completely different, and, as a first question to get an answer to, is in fact the dash pack that is causing the issue, or something else in the working of the car, seems odd that nothing is working at all, is power in fact getting to it at all??

There was a guy breaking an early car, I will dig about and see if I can find out who it was and be back later if I have some sucess

Good News I have sorted my electronic Dash issue but it was buying a working replacement. This is not the ideal as eventually I am sure this one will also fail. If anyone is interested I have 3 non working electronic instrument clusters if anyone wants to repair them?
