Glove Box Availability

Hello Folks,
Just an oddball query, my 94 X300 does'nt have a glovebox passenger side as does the X350 and i wondered if the interior paneling above the footwell had any possibility of being interchanged and if anyone had ever done this? Or if a glovebox option was ever fitted to later models. Appreciate there may just be a swift NO on this but you never know as its often surprising what gets interchanged between models. Regards. Charlie.

The early X300's had no glove-box. Mines an early 1995, and has a tiny box that is of virtually no use. I think you can retro fit them.

Is it because there's an airbag behind there?
Certainly in the later XJS the space previously occupied by the glovebox became an airbag. I wonder if in the change from XJ40 to X300 the same happened?

The airbag is behind the wooden facia at the top but i was wondering if it was possible to install below that with the same or similar paneling to the X350. Charlie.

Dimensionally, the 350 is a rather larger car than 40/300/308, Charlie.

I think you might be quite hard pushed to install a glove compartment from a 350. I can give you height and width sizes if you wish. I think you would be into some major cutting and shutting with such a conversion.

early 300 did not have a glove box

it was introduced from Feb 1995 from VIN 739427

however , due to lots of customer complaints many cars were retro fitted, and many have also been done privately

its easy, plug and play as it were

get your trim code, and find a breaker, lots about, I have some here, with the same colour and just remove the old knee bolster and refit the glove box unit

Just be aware the lid has a lock, so your key will lock it , BUT NOT open it, so check that the unit you buy is unlocked, or has a key, or you get the VIN of the donor car to get a key cut

Hope this helps Rob Jenner

passenger B post label
or
front radiator slam panel on a label
or
post a picture, we can probably work it out as there were not many 300 trim colours
or
send me your VIN and I will ask Jaguar

cheers Rob

three pics of a glove box removed from the car

10 minute job to swap over

this one was in the depths of my stash hence it needs a good clean, I have two more, no keys but all unlocked

if one is of use let me know £40.00 posted (quite chunky items)

Many thanx for the informative replies, i'm sure i'll be able to sort it. One has to wonder why Jaguar did'nt include it in the first place as the X300 is the only Jag i can think of that did'nt have a glovebox. Charlie.

I've seen late 40's fitted with 300 glove-boxes by the owners though at a later date
