i think my front seats could do with some refurbishment

Very Costly. I had my drivers-seat refurbished. It was kind-of, re-tucked with the same thread, so looks fairly original. I left the car with the upholsterer for a day, (he specialises in house upholstery) and he stripped the leather from the seat and did the job, then replaced the leather cover. It looks really good, but it was £200. I would look for some used seats in your case.

Looks like a bit of ebay spotting is called for.

Fat Fingers, search using obscure wording etc and you may get something like my XJ40 office chair which I got for 99p and it included all of the woodwork, side cheeks and centre console because it had been advertised wrongly.

an update

i have now fitted the replacement seats i got last weekend, vast improvement, and they are still to be cleaned , new seatbelt, new door wood trims , and new gear knob along with a pair of new door mirror ( complete )
