compatible seats MK I, II, s-type?

Hello all,
I am new to the forum and I am close to purchase my first Jaguar. I hired an MK II in the past, and I loved it, so have kept my eyes open ever since. Just found a '64 3.4 s-type which is in useable condition and I feel like there is lots of potential. However, the seats are not original (seems like replacing with newer seats is not as rare as one would think). I would probably keep the seats in place for a while, but at the same time I would be on the hunt for original ones. So here is my question, do you know if the same seats were used in the MK I, II and s-type cars? For instance, from flickering a lot through google I can see that there are front seats with arm rests and some without...

Thanks a ton!
Isaak

Hi, I have a 1965 3.8 s with the original interior and it is my understanding that the s type model was an updated version of the mk 2 and was made in tandem with the mk2, the mk X and the E type from 1963 to 1968, the seats are larger and in the words of the literature more luxurious with centre arm rests as opposed to bucket seats, apart from this the front cab and front end are mk2, and the rear cab and rear end are mk X it is worth investing in a manual for this model as some people confuse the s type and the mk 2. hope this helps.

Thanks Pat for your comment. From some more research it seems like rear seats are very similar to the MK II (with a foldable center armrest), and the biggest difference appears on the front seats, where there is an arm rest for each seat in the s-type but not in the MK I & II.

cheers!

I have a 1962 mk2 and I have fitted XJ40 seats front and rear. The front seats are more comfortable than the mk2 and have electric adjustment on the front and a comfy armrest in the back. It all fitted well .

Hi, I have an original 1961 Mk2. It has non adjustable seats which I find flat and not too comfortable with a rather upright back. It depends if you want comfort or originality I suppose. The rear seat is better with a central fold down armrest. I think many have replaced theirs with those from later Jags.
Regards,

I have a Daimler version of the mark2. It has the more comfortable wider front seats with armrests that form a bench. They do lack the lateral support of the Jaguar versions. Mine also have front seat backs with adjustable rake. The rear seat also has armrests.

The difference in seats has been covered well on this thread but I would add that reclinable Reuter seats were an expensive optional option on the mark2 and still crop up on e bay etc.
From memory the Daimler versions of the mark 2 had a sort of split bench seat rather than individual ones.

I replaced my interior with that from an XJ40 Daimler for more comfort. The XJ40 rear seat is too wide but the Daimler is a split version and by removing the centre divider / armrest they fit well.

Good luck whatever route you take.

The daimler front seats are almost identical to the standard ones as used in Mk1 jaguar.. almost all the daimler front seats have a reclining mechanism.. I note the XJ 6 front seats are often used as an upgrade ..I generally grab the 'vanden plas' front seats when I see them at the junk yard.. and have a couple of sets on hand..

Unfortunately the car sold before I could get my mind up so the seat issue is no longer an issue (for me). Thank you for the further info though, knowledge for others out there needing some seat-wisdom!
