Veneer repairs

Postby Doherto » Sat May 24, 2025 4:15 pm

Hi all, I'm back now after nearly a year following open heart surgery and I have restarted my restoration again. However in my current phase of prepping everything I can so that I am doing bench work instead of crawling all over the car yet, I have come across a problem which hopefully someone can help me with. A while ago I bought the last set of new wood offered by an old boy in Cornwall which looks brilliant. Unfortunately when I dug out the main panel for the speedo and rev counter I discovered that it must be a wood set from an earlier car which did not have a choke. I therefore need to cut a slot for the choke and drill a hole for the light in my dash piece and have been trying to find a suitable expert to do the job. ( the chances of me doing it without chipping the veneer is Nil.) I live in Manchester but would travel to get it done properly so if anyone can recommend a professional I would be grateful as I have scoured the club magazine without any joy. Fingers crossed. Tony D

Try dropping Ken Jenkins (contact details in the mag) an email. Ken is bound to have come across similar issues before. Mike.

Unfortunately, I did not get any responses to my request so had to have a go myself. Didn't turn out too bad but hopefully never again.
