Headling undermaterial

Postby 99B » Sat Oct 20, 2018 10:07 pm

Hi,
I am looking to strip and replace the headlining on a Daimler mk2. However, the under material that is glued to the rook seems to be a hard foam material and, I am having trouble sourcing the material. I have been told to buy a material with a foam attached (2-5mm) from a Martrim. It seems to have been used on later vehicles. Does anyone know the hard under material I am needing and where can I purchase it.

If I can source the material, I would assume it would come in a complete sheet as it seems to be a material that would not be able top roll-up. if that is the case, would I have to take out the rear/front window to attach the material?

All help and advice gratefully received.

I think there has been discussion on this site before on the topic if you do a search. However, it does not sound like the material you describe is the original. Mine had a tarred horsehair material and it was a devil to get off. It was falling apart and making a huge dust. I decided to use a modern material that would improve the sound and drumming situation so bought this at one of the NEC shows. It was used for the roof of Toyotas and was easy to cut and apply. I had the screens out at the time so did not have any issues and could trim it to suit. I replaced the headling itself at the same time as mine was stained from condensation. I glued the lining on as recommended and it has now been in place for many years and seems ok (touch wood).

Thank you for your reply. I have now had the roof headlining re-trimmed and I ended up using a base material, something similar to what was used in the XJ models.
