Mk2 armrest help

Postby G4TRA » Wed Aug 02, 2017 12:08 pm

I have a Mk2 1962 saloon Grey with Matador Red interior.
Over the years the armrest internal foam has deteriorated and as the panels and rests themselves are in good order, has anyone any knowledge if repairing arm rests with either new internal foam or other means.
Alternatively has anyone any Matador red armrests for sale?

Thanks
Steve :)

Are we talking about the Door card arm rest ?
If so its a straight forward job really , I rebuilt all my door cards , with new board and foam !
The arm rest is held on the card with a few screws , you would need a good tack gun for the staples !

Nice job there.
Yes these are the front door card armrests as shown in your picture.
As I have not taken the card off the door and detached the armrest I am not quite sure of the manufacturing methodology. However I have noticed that Aldridge Trimmers offer Item 207JMK2/AR2 FRONT ARMREST COVERS at a reasonable price, which indicates to me that the top part of the armrest (with the split and collapsed foam rubber internals on my car) is a replaceable item?
I am trying to speak to someone at Aldridge's to confirm this, but what its your take?

Hi, if your vinyl material is in good condition then it is a simple if slightly long winded job to strip the door card down and remove the armrest and then repad it. I enjoyed doing mine several years ago.
