Slipping front car mats

I have a problem with all my XJS's, namely that the drivers side footwell mat (not the carpet, but the loose overmat) folds back and wrinkles over. It may sound like a trivial thing, but a couple of times it's actually interfered with the accelerator pedal and could actually be quite dangerous.

Does anyone have a way of fixing the mat more securely to the base carpet? I would think that some kind of double sided velcro pad might work, but wondered if anyone had some recommendations. I think the problem is that the footwell becomes very narrow, so the top part of the mat is prone to bending back on itself.
