Trim code AGF

A member has sent me a picture of his VIN plate asking me to translate his trim colour.
The paint code is CFH which is Flamenco Red. I'm happy with that.
What I'm less sure of is the trim colour. The trim code is AGF. The photos look like Doeskin but I thought that was AGD?
The car is half-leather with the cloth inserts. Does that make a difference?

doeskin is AEE , AEM is magnolia , CEM is mulberry

so AGF becomes Oatmeal ( later known ad AGD )

That's right. Jaguar used different codes for cloth interiors.

I have another Trim Code that is puzzling AFS HZ, although the car has pennine tweed (LEE)

Hi Jon - AFR is Buckskin which is as close as I can get to AFS.
Could you perhaps post a photo?
Is it possible that the car doesn't have its original seats?

The Car definitely is registered with the LEE (Pennine Tweed), half leather half cloth as per Jaguar Heritage, it could be they changed the trim before Jaguar sold it as it was originally owned by Jaguar for a number of years, before being sold off.

I will have to talk to the owner a little more.

AFS is not a code that I recognise. Is it possible that you could post a pic of the trim sticker (Do obscure the VIN)?

As I said it could be that there was different trim in before Jag sold it off.

Jon - is that the original VIN plate or a replacement?
And are you sure that you want the VIN displayed here on a public forum?

As this thread was starting to wander off in another direction concerning the possible dangers of making VIN details public I have split that debate into a new thread called "Is it safe to display VIN details?" in the General section.

Thanks for trimming the picture, probably should have trimmed a little more off....That is definitely the original VIN, having said this it was owned by Jaguar for a couple of years before being sold off after it was brought to the island. The owner is intrigued as the trim code does not match the registered trim code?

Jon - the reason I asked if that was the original VIN plate was because the letters/numbers didn't look very straight and I wondered if it was a replacement one that was stamped by hand and maybe there was a mistake with the trim code?

I far as I am aware it is the original...Certainly it was in exactly the same place as the original if it has been replaced. As I said it was owned by Jaguar, and I know with a previous XJ8 that the our family had, what was on the plate did not match what was in the car. We had a 2006 XJ8 4.2, originally built in 2003 and owned/upgraded by Jag between 2003 and 2006. I suspect that what was originally in there may have been different to what it was then sold with when Jaguar disposed of it in 86.

Just a quirk that would be nice to solve.

If I've understood correctly, you were implying that the Jaguar Heritage certificate for the car states LEE? That's quite unusual as a Heritage certificate is predominantly taking the information from the original build record which would, in theory, be consistent with the commission plate. Is there anything on the Heritage certificate which implies it was used as a development car or similar which might explain the discrepancy?
