Hi, I have gone into the Jaguar business by dragging this thing home. I understand the paint is "special" ( in a bad way) so I am seeking information and advice from anyone who has repaired or refinished one. I found a little information which indicates a 2-part epoxy primer-sealer underneath the new paint will prevent problems involving the existing paint.
This car is black and the paint is sun-damaged and cracking around the fuel fillers; also these cars have a reputation for rusting around the front and rear windows and this one hasn't yet, so i want to remove the windows and paint there as well. This is not a high-value car and will not support (nor can I afford) a complete strip etc, but it is a solid car and would be a nice one if refinished.
Regards,
Timothi.

Re: 1986 Jaguar XJ6 Thermoplastic Acrylic paint: Refinish
Repainting an XJ is no more difficult than for any old car. There's always a risk of reaction between old and new finishes unless you go to an (expensive) bare metal respray. Using a sealer is generally a practical option but like most short cuts in life, the outcome can never be 100% guaranteed. As much as anything, it will depend on the skill of the painter and his preparatory work. Mike.
