XJS seat recliner handle

My XJS drivers seat reclining handle, is sticking severely hence not engaging the back section to recline forwards in order to get into the back. There are 2 screws to release the plastic trim around the handle, but the handle is plastic and in the way. Or do i need to access the mechanism at the join with the seated section? I'm hoping I can WD40 it into life?!
