Broken sun visor clip , the fix

as most XJS owners have experienced this frustrating broken sun visor clip , i thought i would try and make a better fix other than throwing a new clip every time they break

the clip is screwed to the roof by a philips screw up inside the clip , the construction of the clip means that stress is placed in about the worse place it could be , and the clip breaks as below

my attempt at creating a better fix is to mix up some epoxy resin ( 2 part ) and rough up the inside of the new clip so it gives the epoxy something to grab onto , and then carefully fill the recess with the epoxy resin to just below the top as shown, this epoxy resin sets in 5 minutes, and is fully cured after 24 hours, so do it the day before fitting

then simply screw back in place as normal, hopefully the epoxy will support the weak point of the clip to prevent future breakage , only time will tell

this won't repair a broken clip as the plastic doesn't seem to like being glued, its simply supporting the internals of a new clip before fitting , clips can still be bought new from Jaguar for about a fiver each

at least i didn't get too bored this sunday afternoon , lol

I must have been lucky - i have had my car twelve years without this problem appearing : it must be a common one from what you say ?
The XJS seems to be cursed with footling troubles which are more an annoyance than a fault, such as this and the wet feet one. What about compiling a list for new owners with guidance on fixes ?
What epoxy did you use ? Would 'No Nails' be any good ?

I'm afraid ' no nails ' is a construction adhesive, and not an epoxy resin

epoxy resin consists of two parts, these are mixed together to cause a chemical reaction and the resin then sets hard

but hey , anyone can try anything to help ,

This must be a common problem as I see there is another solution on Bernard Emden's site -along with numerous other 'fixes'.

My clips are okay (although I have a couple spare just in case!). My issue is with the plastic bracket that takes the setcrew on the other side of the visor on the passenger side. It has been cracked for years: before I even purchased the car. The fix was a strong glue to hold it together to stop the visor from dropping down unintentionally. The issue is that there is not enough tension to fully retract the sunvisor, so it still droops a little. Guessing that ultimately I'll need a replacement sunvisor that has the bracket (in an un-cracked condition), unless anyone knows any better... Conscious that I've not described this too well, so will take another look at the weekend and clarify.

I thoroughly accept the fact I'm boring. I just bought a couple of new clips (doeskin) from Jaguar for a couple of quid. I've replaced both and will keep the ones for spares should they ever be needed,
