Haynes Museum - V12 Day Sunday 28th Sept 2008

Postby davidm » Fri Apr 11, 2008 4:38 pm

I see on the Haynes website that they are holding "A celebration of the V12 engine. Including Test Track demonstrations and static car displays" on Sunday 28th September. Sounds like a good excuse for another day out for those of us that have V12s. Anyone interested? Lets have a forum gathering there.

Hmmmm, could be tempting.
After all, the Jaguar V12 is one of the finest engines ever put into production, it should be celebrated with gusto!
Since blowing the right hand cylinder bank at Silverstone last year, i have aquired another 6litre engine, hopefully I will get round to droping it in before september! Fun fun fun.

Haynes Museum - V12 Day Sunday 28th Sept 2008

Postby davidm » Wed Apr 23, 2008 10:48 pm

I have now received the following letter from Michael Penn at Haynes :D :

"Museum V12 Car Show on Sunday 28th September 2008

We are writing to you regarding a new event which the Museum is planning.
On Sunday 28th September we are holding a ‘V12’ car show and are therefore writing to you to ask if you can pass on this information to your members and hopefully decide to enter either as individuals, or as a group.

We are sure that this show will be an enormous success and will give ‘V12’ owners and clubs the opportunity to show off their prized vehicles.

Held on the Museum site, entrants will have the chance to show off their prized vehicle to other enthusiasts and visiting members of the public, as well as taking their vehicle onto the Museum test track and taking part in a moving vehicle display.

There will be competitions held throughout the day in the following categories:-

1) A self-judged concours competition,
2) Curators choice competition,
3) Spirit of the Event competition,
4) Furthest travelled competition

As well as the opportunity to take part in the event there will also be a large variety of trade stands available , and the chance to look around the Museum.

We plan to make this a regular annual event at the Museum.

If you are interested in taking part and would like more information please do not hesitate to call us. In the meantime in the hope that you may be interested in entering we are enclosing a copy of the entry form, which please feel free to photocopy and hand to your members"

Cost is £5.50pp giving discounted entry to museum
I have posted flyer, letter and entry form HERE

I suggest you make your own booking and let us know on this forum. I will then liaise with Haynes over parking us as a group.

Haynes Museum - V12 Day Sunday 28th Sept 2008

Postby MichaelSB » Wed Sep 17, 2008 5:45 pm

I asked the question of Haynes Museum, see reply below:

Dear Michael & Tracy

Sadley we had only three entries for this event. Two Jaguars and one Mercedes.

With that sort of response it is just not possible to put on any sort of event.

If you have any reason you can think of why the response was so poor I would be pleased to know.

Kind regards

I am amazed that so few V12 owners were interested in this event.

Two Jaguars and one Mercedes.

Similar to the Santa Pod event we organised here a couple of years ago....... except the Mercedes didn't turn up!

Back on subject though, I didn't get the impression from their website that an application had to be made? It seemed to me a turn up on the day type of event. I certainly don't remember seeing it advertised anywhere in the JEC magazine.

I think it would have been popular if organised properly, E Types, XJSs, Series III, XJ40-V12, X300V12 etc apart from any Mercs, Astons, Ferraris etc. etc.
