lets have our own BREAKFAST meet ??
Moderators:davidr, BigCatXJS, dhdove
Does anybody who is going to Kemble tomorrow have a spare AAV hose that they don't want? It is the short one at the top of the AAV with the 90 degree bend.
Re: lets have our own BREAKFAST meet ??
Almost got there!
Thanks to the local Police force, pushing me into a lay-by, and the guys at Grange Land Rover at Wooten Bassett pushing me into their compound at least the car was safe. And also doing a search for the number of the AV8 café and offering me coffee. The guy that I was talking to used to work at Meacham's? in Kensington so he was a bit sympathetic.
Anyway, after talking to David and Vince I prodded and poked various things and it finally fired up; I have to say, very good battery, it coped with about a dozen start attempts with no sign of flagging.
Set off, with some trepidation obviously, and everything was fine, smooth as a smooth thing on a smooth day.
Took her up to about, um, er some miles per hour your honour, and no sign of any problems whatsoever.
Went to the Cuckoo Fair in Downton in the Alfa.
Just to be on the safe side.
So once we get back from the boat tomorrow it will be out with the wire brush and the contact cleaner and unplug, clean and re-plug everything that I can find.

Steve
shame you couldn't get there, it was very well attended and good weather, and lots of other things happening as well
on the good side, you got her going again and got her home, as David said, make sure the vital sensors that the Marellie needs are clean and in good condition
these are the engine temp sensor , by the left hand thermostat, the air temp sensor on the left trumpet , the fly wheel sensor mounted under the gearbox and the front crank sensor, this one determines TDC so the ignition will fire at the right time, once running this sensor is not used until the next starting crank
hope some of this helps and hope its an easy fix
btw, both the crank and flywheel sensor will need to be within 2thou

Re: lets have our own BREAKFAST meet ??
Steve - glad to hear that you got back safely. Sounds like you have one of those annoying intermittent electrical issues that will be hard to find. Good luck!
Anyway, a really good meeting at Kemble on Saturday. A good turn out with a few new faces and at least ten cars. We spent so much time looking at cars and chatting that I got in trouble for being late home for lunch!
So, good to see everyone and meet a few new members and cars. A very enjoyable morning. See you next month!
Regards
David

Re: lets have our own BREAKFAST meet ??
The first meeting I could actually make it to for about 6 months and the idiot car let me down!
I was dreading the ignominy of arriving home on the back of a trailer; haven't done that since the Audi A6 AllRoad refused to play ball.
Gutted that I missed the meeting; I'm not sure who the guys were I spoke to at the Café but they were convinced that the meeting was last week and that the AV8 didn't do breakfast anymore?
Anyway, had a major ferret around in the engine bay today, pulled every connection and relay that I could reach, wire brushed and contact cleaned all of them, spat on it, crossed fingers and turned the key and...................
Stay tuned for next weeks exciting episode!
Actually it roared into life after 2 cranks and then just sat there like a dumb s**t rumbling away to itself quite happily.
Idiot car. Also forgotten how much you bleed when working in that engine bay.
The new AAV appears to have stopped the hunting (managed to locate a new hose at the fantastically expensive price of £22.50) but didn't get a chance to actually drive it yet as had to go see friends and Annie actually wanted to get there and possibly back again.
Going back to the initial problem I don't think that it can be the crank sensor as that wouldn't have stopped the engine running would it?
Anyway, if it actually stops persistently precipitating tomorrow I'll take her for a blast and see how it goes.
Have to go to a meeting in Poole on Wednesday so just wondering if I'm brave enough to attempt it in the Jag.

Re: lets have our own BREAKFAST meet ??
Hi BB,
We are rapidly approaching our next meet. Is it just a vicious rumour that AV8 has stopped doing breakfast ?

Re: lets have our own BREAKFAST meet ??
Hi Oldtimer - when we went last time they explained that they were only doing bacon rolls and not the full cooked breakfast because of the number of events on so they expected to be very busy.
If I get a chance I'll give them a call during the week and make sure they're cooking the full monty!

Well done Sir
Re: lets have our own BREAKFAST meet ??
I've had confirmation from the Restaurant Manager that they will be serving the full breakfast menu on Saturday so we can have the proper slap-up!!

Who knows, might make it past Wotton Bassett this time!
New AAV and temperature sensor fitted and it seems to be running ok so fingers crossed and touch wood and all that.
