New member well known car and previous owner

Hello all, well after sometime and a couple of derisory offers for the car I have decided to keep it for now and see how Jaguar ownership suits me. My dad is Archie Paxman and I now have his car residing on my driveway, following his death in January this year. Some of you may know him and perhaps more so recognise the car. D14 PAX Blue 3.6 manual cabriolet.
Keith from XJ restorations Eastbourne has been kindly looking after it and after servicing it, repairing it and getting a new MOT. I collected it yesterday and drove it home to Margate.
First time I have ever driven it and once I got used to the lollopy old thing, I warmed to its nature.
All the way home with the top off at a steady pace proved to be a great experience. It turned a few heads and behaved itself impeccably. Apart from the fuel consumption though gulp  6mpg is easy 32mpg was harder to find but not impossible. About standard for a 112000 miler you may say, but I drive a DS5 Hybrid every day. What the hell its for fun.
As a fussy bugger I can see a few quid disappearing, already been to the paint shop to price up for the winter. I am not saying out loud how much as my wife would not be impressed.
It has issues, but as I understand it they all do
I will check for answers to my questions and put them to you in another post if I cannot find the answers I need.
Already been stripping it out today, its like a treasure trove of stuff my Dad squirelled away. Found a cracking torque wrench, full gallon can of petrol, Top up bottles for everything and the original Jaguar tool case complete. Glove box full of CD's. There was also A cover for the hood when down, but it seems to be too small ! not wide enough and try as I might it does not fit, which is a shame as I would use it to tidy the car up. It has connections to metal studs inside the car and about 5 poppers on the rear of it which the cabriolet does not have. Its in Black and seems to be brand new if anyone has a vehicle it may fit.
Looking for cover if anyone has one to dispose of.
Been fiddling already as interior lights and dash lights not working, a deft fuse change gets the interior lights on song and fitted a spare light he had not got round to fitting. Cleaning out the cubby holes. The luggage compartment ones were damp, no harm done but a day in the sun has sorted that out.
I look forward to seeing you at a meet or two. I cannot be as committed as my Dad as I have twins that play football for Kent on Saturday and on Sundays for a Kent league team so time is precious.
Regards to you all and I look forward to joining in some of the fun, looking forward to tomorrow if suns out my missus and I are driving into the country for some lunch don't you know.

i doubt i will be the only one,

but im extremely happy that you have decided to keep the car, and that you are now a JEC member ,

and your dad being such a respected member i feel you can easily call this place home from the get-go ,

you will find a wealth of information and support here with regard to the upkeep of your car, and hopefully we can give a bit back of what your dad so generously offered out in the first place

Been using the car over the last 3 days and really enjoyed myself. Loaded up the wife, put the roof down and took an hours drive to Smarden, Kent across country. Had some lunch in The Smarden Bell. Great venue and well worth a visit, private parking, large olde world pub. Food was very nice indeed.
Lazy drive back, had a small tinker then on with the cover.
I guess that's what its all about. Picking up a mate in it tomorrow and we are off to play golf.

Steve,

Welcome to the JEC and also to the Bulletin Board!

First of all my belated condolences to you on Archie's passing. I had many conversations and meetings with him over the years and in fact the last time I saw him was last year at Keith Parrington's when he made me a cup of tea! He was clearly becoming a regular visitor there! I very much enjoyed his company, and his enthusiasm and commitment will be sadly missed.

On a happier note, it's great that you've decided to keep the car and join the club. I do hope you enjoy Jaguar ownership as much as your Dad and hopefully you'll make as many friends and contacts as he did.

Just to let you know, because Archie had updated his original membership with the details of the XJS, I have today arranged with our webman to transfer those details over to your new membership to avoid you having to go through the routine. This was completed this afternoon. If you go to the Home Page, go to "MemberZone" then "My Account" you'll see the car details at the bottom. I hope that helps.

Do feel free to come to the Bulletin Board for any advice or just a chat. We're all glad to have you as a member. As another Kent resident, I look forward to seeing D14PAX on the road soon!

Regards

Paul Sinnott

Thank you Paul, I hope so too. Did try and put details on for the car. but to be honest I could not find the engine number
Am posting some questions at the moment as I have no basis of knowledge to guage anything on. Things I feel are wrong I suspect quite often would be run of the mill to a seasoned owner.
I need to get the oil pressure light working. Dash out tomorrow to check bulb as other lights are ok and it blows warm air all the time toasting my feet. No matter which way I set the controls.

Fitting of the hood coverRe: New member well known car and previous owner

Hi,
Like you I am relatively a new member to JEC and I am also a proud owner of an XJ-SC cabriolet. For quite a while I found it difficult to fit the hood cover until I saw online an explanation to use it correctly.
When you fold the hood back the top section naturally faces backwards, and in this position you will not be able to fit the cover. All you need to do is to fold the top section forward to the front of the car to solve your issue.
This might not solve your problem especially if the cover is not correct to the cabriolet.
Driving an XJS especially one with a manual gearbox is a terrific experience, so good luck with yours.
Regards
Alan

Steve,

Lovely story you're holding onto your late father's car and, as a relatively new member myself - welcome!
