Hello all,

I have been a member for several years but have never posted on the forum.

I own 1994 4.0 XJS which I am in the process of repairing the windscreen scuttle and some areas around the screen. I have had the car about 9 years and some one had done a job with filler before I bought it. There was water getting in and at the end of last year I decided it needed sorted.

Panels were sourced but I have been putting the job off due to work and cold weather.

Jumped on the forum to find out how to remove the dashboard and airbags.

Not sure if this is the type of forum that like rusty repair photos but I will start a thread once I get welding.

So far the drivers side scuttle has been cut out. I need to repair areas below which is why the dashboard is coming out.

My other Jaguar is a Mk2 which I got in 2020 and other than rebuilding the carbs and getting it running it has been stored since. I am looking forward to starting the project. It had been in a junk yard in California for around 30 years, it is solid but sun damaged. I have no history or information about the car. Jaguar Heritage were able to tell me it had been exported to Venezuela in 1960 as a LHD 3.8 auto. Currently it has a 3.4 manual fitted. I would love to get some details of its history but I think it is always going to be a mystery.

You may remember my magazine article on this issue back in 2012. And naturally since then, more and more owners have encountered the situation.

As I'm sure you know, the problem will almost definitely have started in the screen flange, rather than directly from the plenum drains, so the screen will need to come out. Be careful when you do that as the mastic retention dams are NLA, so try and carefully save your original.

Hopefully, yours is not so bad, but I've seen the corrosion chase all the way down the A-post and into the sills. So fully check everywhere and cut it all the way back.

I hadn't seen the article, I only joined the club when I got the MK2.

There is a fair bit of rust but its not so bad, I have got the dashboard out now.

The screen had been replaced at some point and there was areas which weren't sealed due to the rust. I broke the screen accidentally ( still need to source one).

The bits I am more dreading doing is the front edge of the roof and the gutters. This is my first visit to the forum so I need to have a good trawl through.

We absolutely are the kind of Forum that likes pictures of rusty repairs so please do start a thread when you get into it. We’d love to see it and we could maybe even make a magazine article out of it. Make sure you take plenty of pictures and share them on here please!

Also just to note that old copies of the magazine are available online - although you may have to search through them manually to find the article you are interested in.
