Well I suppose someone should get this rolling.
I'm not quite a newbie to Jag ownership or the club, but I did finally get round to buying my first XJS last month. Boy what a great experience, I've had Porsches and maseratis before which was great but having a car you looked at as a kid for yourself to play with is just fantastic.
I must say I looked at an XKR before buying the XJS but the XK8 & R's feel like driving my other Jag and I have always wanted a XJS. So I saw this one by accident and that was it I took it home. Opps.
Now I'm hooked!
I'd just like to say this forum is a wonderful resource for information, it was really helpful finding out abut the steam powered parts of a XJS.

Oh and thanks for all the help in advance.

Gah, the XK8 is a hairdressers' car, not much different from the awful MX5. Well done on a choosing a big, heavy, fast man's car instead!

Good morning all!
I'm a newbie of the most ridiculous order. There i was looking on ebay as i do everyday of my life (el saddo) and up pops this 1990 XJS V12. So i put a very low bid on it thinking there is no way that i will get if for that..............................and guess what? I now have a massive 2 tonne tess sitting on my driveway.
Happy days, don't get me wrong i've always loved the xjs but never really thought i'd get one. I had never even been in one until last monday.
The drive back from where i bought it was possibly the funniest drive ever. It's not quick, it weighs more than a blue whale, kids are the only people that can sit in the back of it and yet they have smoking facilities. I'm sure i could see harrier jets taking off the front of the bonnet, but i'm not sure of this as they were too far away.
This is why i love it, it's so totally ridiculous a car to own, everytime i turn that key i laugh and smile. This is what owning a car should be about pure enjoyment, i hope we will be very happy together.
All the very.

Hi everybody. I'm reluctant to call myself a "Newbie" as I am approaching 73 years! I've been a member of the JEC for many years (can't remember how many) and am still on my fourth XJ40, which is now destined to be moved on. I've always hankered after the XJS but have been influenced by the availability of four seats. However, I decided that if I was ever going to own one I should do it before I became too old to get in and out of it! So I did - last Friday 12th December - and drove it 170 miles home in filthy weather. Loved it

! I looked at three Facelift models but I was impressed by the Royal Blue non metallic paint and light blue/grey leather interior. I won't bore you all with what I like about it as you probably know already. It was actually on the XJS Club stand at this year's NEC Classic Car show, but I didn't know until after I'd bought it. I'm now looking forward to lots of pleasure (and probably a modicom of pain!)
Cheers, Richardh

Hi,
Thanks. I have a link to my website in my profile that I have tried to keep up-to-date with all works, issues, etc. There's also an
http://www.richardjamestrading.co.uk/in ... rchive.htm archive page that holds all the details since I took ownership. I have also tried to post plenty of pics as well. The website is somewhat homegrown, as I don't really do website design
I recently had the big cat appraised for Insurance purposes; she was rated A+ with a value not unsimilar to concours. Of course there is always ongoing maintainance; she is a road-going car for weekends and hols and sometimes comes to work on dry days, so I always have to keep an eye-out for any rust etc. Finance permitting, I would like to enhance performance further with some AJ6 Engineering intake/ECU upgrades at some point. I am also toying with the idea of a transmission upgrade (manual or 4-speed auto)...
Do you have any pics of your Cat? What restorations are you running with currently?
Cheers, Rich.

Welcome!
24 and driving an xj-s v12 - who says that young folks can't get insurance! For the record, I managed to insure an M535i when I was 18
As we're offering up ages - I'm now 34 and my xj-s is turning 20 soon; they do say that you're as old as whoever/whatever you feel(ing)!
Rich.

Thought I'd drop by and say hi. I've had my XJS since last November - an ebay buy that was rather cheap but it was MoT'd at the time.
The car is an '86 V12 with TWR body kit, has been resprayed in black and the the usual amount of rust developing in the rear ski ramps with a few bits elsewhere where the respray hasn't been up to great standards.
She needs two new front balljoints and has a leak from the sump gasket - only minor though. According to the local Jaguar dealership in Luton, the engine is fine - has about 70k on the clock, and she sounds fantastic, always starting on the button.
I'm in the process of retro-fitting an XJR-S interior in and have a good set of XJR-S alloys to go on as well. Eventually I'll replace both front wings and possibly the bonnet and get it resprayed, but the idea is to have her MoT'd within the next few months and use her for a while..
Guess I'll see where we go from here.
Chris
