Hello One and All !
I hope all is well with everyone. I have been away for a good while ! So please forgive my absence. Though still have 3 Jaguars, and I have recently taken back my 1992 XJS 4.0 Convertible after an extensive refurbishment.

And she is gorgeous, I am sure you will agree.

I did write a fair bit previously, though I seemed to have lost it when putting it in draught !
I have another XJS 4.0 94 Coupe Black, that will also be visiting Rich soon through neglect on my behalf due to ill health. Plus a daily driver, X358 TDVI Sovereign.

Rich did a great job on the car, I came across him by word of mouth cannot recommend him highly enough, I shall put his Facebook link up to view.

A quick update, when I took back my car the Speedometer reading was stuck at over 150mph ... I understand that the Yuasa Battery had gone flat and would not recharge ? So a Power Booster was used to start her up, hence I reckon, caused a Power surge/spike and maybe that is what caused the Speedo to think it was being launched "Santa Pod style". As the odometer and computer were working fine.

So reading various articles the answer was to turn the Speedometer upside down for the speedometer needle to drop the other side !! I am not in the Red Arrows so ...

I dropped the Steering Wheel to its lowest point. So with a “Phillips” Screwdriver in hand, I took the two side screws and single top screw fastening the plastic trim around the inside of the Binnacle cowl . Safely put the trim and 3 screws aside, Easy peasy.

I then removed the two covers hiding the two screw apertures at the top of the Binnacle, facing you at each corner. I used a small flat blade screwdriver inserted towards top of them teasing the covers away whereupon they flipped forward and with a quick wiggle they agreeably came out. Only a small bead of sweat on my Forehead . I was on a roll..... “Don`t Stop Me Now”

Sorry messed up the continuity !!

I manage to spy the screw heads through the two tiny access points, so key hole surgery eh ! I then put extra talc in my Latex gloves for this next bit. Freddie and Queen was no longer playing in my Head, but was replaced with tumble weed blowing down an empty street as me trying to get a bite on my screwdriver was bringing out my drivers Tourette’s ! Had the Screwhead been stripped ?
After a few more unsuccessful attempts I decided to take a five minute break a cup of tea and two sprays of my GTN Angina spray. Plus wipe more than a couple of beads of sweat from my brow.

I returned to the scene, undaunted by the laughing Binnacle facing me ! With torch in hand, I spied again through the two mocking holes and saw that the screwheads in fact were looking fine and were intact !
Was I missing the heads with the screwdriver ? And jamming up against plastic, perhaps. No... in an instant I managed to get a purchase on the first screw, slowly and with great strength and fortitude I felt movement, I could not let go now, Daisy Duke from next door who was visiting my neighbour and on a tour of Europe’s Denim Cutoff Shorts shops came over to wipe my fevered brow (I wish)
No, I was all alone . And now the theme from Jaws was now creeping up on me ! With the patience of a UXB Disposal expert I continued to Loosey Lefty .. Not Righty Tighty... It came away, it had been over tightened somewhat zealously . I previously have found easier tack welds to break with my teeth.
The second screw, realised it was futile to resist, and came out under flag of truce. Almost.
I pulling forward the Binnacle it was apparent that somebody previously thought it a grand idea to use black mastic sealer in one corner of the Binnacle, why do people have these bright moments ?

I found the two Loom plugs and pulled them free pressing each end to release the securing clips. Easy Peasy

It was darn dusty, I cleaned off the dust gingerly and cleaned all the contacts with electric contact cleaner, I ensured all was dry before replacing the plugs into the socket.

Now working as it should apart from the temperamental Oil pressure sender, I have a new one .. Somewhere ?

Hope to keep you all updated, waiting for a break in the weather to get another coat of Wax on ! I treated myself to Harly Wax . That is really easy peesy to Wax on .. Wax .. Well you know the rest....

The trick to removing, and refitting the two screws down in the depths is to wipe the screwdriver a couple of times with a magnet to magnetise it so the screws will stick without falling off.
