Hi all
I have been looking around for a replacement for my 2000 X Type V6 and was completely decided after a few false starts that I was looking for an XJR of some flavour - initially low budget with the view that I could put it right myself but then I looked at and drove a few of the later ones and felt the extra cash was well worth it.
It's funny how things go.... after much driving around and test driving over a period of a few weeks I thought I'd try a high-sh mileage 2011 X351 and I was so impressed!
What then followed was a short period of reading about them and being easily convinced by the many reviews that this would be a good choice. I (of course) made the sensible decision of showing pictures of old shape and new shape to my significant other was fairly adamant that I should choose 351 over 358.
So last week I arranged a (significant) bank loan from Sainsburys which incidentally was in my bank account 22 minutes after I had clicked the apply button!!!
I then spent Saturday driving around the Berkshire area test driving with the inevitable result that I committed to buy a 2011 XJ 5.0 Supersport in spotless black!! with 34K on the clock, FJSH but for around £3K more than I had borrowed.....
I'm hoping to collect this Saturday (the week is really dragging) and then Arwen the XKR will have a new stablemate.

Very excited....although of course I'm now reading about the slow responsive and poorly designed infotainment screens and how they can be upgraded. That could be my first task....

I will post some pics when it arrives, hmm "it" doesn't sound right - there will need to be a naming ceremony!

Enjoy to the full. That 5litre V8 has such a strong and level torque curve. I drove the same lump in a XFR some time ago and was highly impressed.

Amazing what you can buy via Sainsburys!

Actually Mike you are somewhat to blame.....
I was looking a week or so ago at an X350 with a number of problems for a low price and I posted in the forum and you steered me away from ‘someone else’s problem’
So although my bank may not thank you, I humbly do

I think a good decision. Starting with a vehicle that is low mileage. Always a good idea.

Hi Steve.
Congratulations on getting the XJ.
It looks wonderful and to find one with such low mileage is even better.
I must admit I was not too impressed by the interia on the newish Jags but I think they are starting to grow on me .
Just like the XJ40 grew on me.
When it first came out I did not like it at all but do now .

I know what you mean about the inside - it's just so.....modern!
The interesting think is I was definitely not going to get one with a black interior, and Mrs Steve hates black as well!

Once I'd seen and test driven it though I knew it was the right car to get - and to my relief in Mrs Steves own words, "the modern black interior really suits the car" which is the closest I'm likely to get to approval - so I will bank that

A week on and I'm still smiling! Struggling slightly with power deployment pulling away from junctions - or out of the driveway. Winter mode helps somewhat with this but I am wondering at the effectiveness of the Pirelli P zeroes on the rear - they have a good 4mm left but I don't believe they are the recommended rubber.
