X351 XJR traction control

Postby phillpincott247 » Fri Nov 10, 2023 3:10 pm

Hi, just purchased a fantastic 2017 XJR 5.0 litre supercharged, the car is brilliant with the most amazing acceleration. if travelling around 50mph and I boot it, it seems to swerve at the back end as though the traction control is not cutting in quick enough. Its been back to the garage I purchased it from & also my local guy who is very experienced and knowledgeable, they were both really helpful and inspected underneath & test drove with me in car, they both experienced the swerves problem and said that the shear power is causing it and that is probably normal. I really don't agree as it feels as though the car could loose control in certain conditions. has anyone experienced this or have any ideas ?. regards Phill

Hi Phil, have you checked the tyres, which would be the most likely cause of poor traction on hard acceleration. You don't advise what mileage is on the car, which could potentially be on its original tyres, which at 7 years old will be well past their prime. Jim

I'd agree with the tyre diagnosis but also under such extreme acceleration it's possible the rear suspension bushes might be deforming. They might be ok for MOT but not up to the job you're asking. If tyres doesn't solve it then look into Polybushing the rear suspension. Should cost about £1000.
