Very keen to buy an XJ but from various internet sources there does seem to be some worry about the diesels with a number of horror stories of engines blowing or suffering from bad oil dilution. I guess it’s a question of risk as there seem to be many satisfied owners but a few who’ve had bad luck. Does anyone know how common these Diesel engine issues are on hotheadedness 3.0 ltr? I guess the same engine must be in other models?

Re: My XJ Dilema
The lack of responses to your query probably answers it! No-one knows. Reading internet complaints always has to be done whilst bearing in mind that our propensity to complain is greater than our likelihood to write in praise. The earlier 2.7 litre diesel did seem to suffer more than its fair share of issues but the 3 litre has appeared to be a significant improvement. Buying any second hand car without a comprehensive warranty is a gamble. Take a genuine expert along with you and listen to the advice given is one way of lowering that risk. Mike.

Re: My XJ Dilema
my experience of jaguars remains the same. poor electrics. components replaced; fail again. Engines have never failed. Have an xj 2013. Would be interested to sell it, replace with newer model, but, not give it away.
