Have just had Jaguar Health Check on my 15MY F Type convertible which reported that the rear silencer bypass valves are seized. They quote £2220.92 to fix which seems ridiculously expensive. If the valves cannot be eased and a replacement is required does anybody know of a more economical fix please? Chris
Re: Seizure of rear silencer bypass valves
Hi, they probably can be eased but it sounds like your experience is like mine with main dealers: they don't do anything which requires effort and application other than fit the parts the computer says need changing.
Case in point: as a 15 year plus customer with my local dealer I felt my ageing X350 XJ8 ought to have its rear axle oil changed at the 100K service.
Jag: "That's not part of the service schedule so we'll have to charge extra labour"
Me: Ok fair enough.
Jag: "Yes we've checked the level and it needed a little top up. Here's the rest of the bottle."
Me: But I asked for it to be changed....
Jag: "Oh we can't do that it only has a level plug, not a drain plug"
Me: Can't you syphon it out the level plug with a pump or a syringe?
Jag: "We've no facilities for that sort of thing nowadays. We'll ask one of our techs if he can bring in something from home" !!!
Needed a return visit to be done. I just hope it has been done properly! Along with that and other problems is the reason I now use an independent Jaguar specialist.

Re: Seizure of rear silencer bypass valves
Hi,
Just seen your post, so you may have already dealt with the problem. I became aware of this issue a couple of months ago, although thankfully my 2017 V6 operates fine. I came across a YouTube vid by Tony’s Garage with a diy fix, so check that out. I recently put my car on a lift for a general underside inspection and I took the opportunity to squirt some WD40 on the linkage, as preventative maintenance. I reckon it sounds even better now !
