Finally got some sensible response. Because my car is one of the first models, 5 years old (nearly 6) Jaguar say they will replace all the necessary parts but I would have to stand 50% of the cost.(parts only) Not really what I wanted but I am keen to get it replaced asap. I’m off to Switzerland in it at the end of the month. To be fair my dealer “Farnells” of Bradford have been pushing it hard on my behalf, I have given them a fair bit of grief but it has still taken 5 months, lots of photos and questions answered for them to get a positive response from Jaguar. Car is now booked in for it to be done on Monday 20th May. They say the work will take a few days and they have very kindly organised a courtesy car for me. I will report back when the work is complete.

Car now back home with lovely shiny new Subframe and braces.

Farnell's sent me a video to my mobile showing the old subframe and braces (Shocking State) and the new one laid out on the floor.

The next day they sent me a 2nd video showing the new Subframe and Braces in situ. Looks great.

Farnell's also did a free health check for me and sent me a very informative video showing the technician going through all the necessary checks. Everything was fine except for the front brake pads. I asked them to replace whilst they were at it.

All I can say is that Farnell's have done an excellent job and bent over backwards for me. It's just a pity that Jaguar had to take so long to agree on replacement. I have paid 50% of the parts costs as agreed but I wanted the car doing NOW before I took it to go over the Swiss mountain passes at the end of the month..

A colleague of mine is a solicitor and he has offered to write to Jaguar, (we got the contact details) to see if he can get my cost reimbursed.

All in all I'm very satisfied and can't praise Farnell's of Bradford enough for their efforts.

It would be great if this could be put into the magazine to give others the courage to keep pushing.

It's a lot about customer relations isn't it? Really was shocked when, late in life I was able to afford to even walk into a main dealer let alone buy anything in that showroom (then VW). Was met by an over-bearing, sullen, take-it-or-leave-it imbitterdness. Coming from previous trades where the customer is always treated as king, seems the motor trade is the last to learn this :?:
I only knew that it appeared to be a UK characteristic coz of the invitations I'd got from the Emden plant to see my planned new Passat B6 (with all the toys) roll off the production line and attend an owners' three day course
Purchase, customer care, hotel, air fares, as a package. A (then) strong Euro plus difficulties with HMRC seemingly trying to be awkward (with the Emden factory's sales office too) put paid to that adventure

Glad you got it sorted, even though Jag head office tried to obfuscate and trick you down the "good will" dead end

Ive seen a lot of issues around on subframe and brace corrosion and understand the issue is in initial design of protective coating at what point did jaguar resolve this if I’m looking to purchase a F Type what model year cleared this issue so i dont buy a vehicle affected by this issue can anyone advise?

Since the parts in question weren't subject to recall because only some cars suffered and others didn't, the best advice before buying a second hand F-type is to look underneath it. There will always be some corrosion on suspension braces. If it's only surface rust, it's not a problem. If it's taken a serious hold, allow for any replacements in the price you negotiate. In practice, any second hand car needs to be checked underneath. Shiny paintwork on any make or model can hide a multitude of sins. Mike.

While Mike is absolutely correct about taking a look underneath any secondhand car, the revised parts became available around 2Q 2019, so it's reasonable to assume that any F-Type built after that date had the correct bits installed - but still worth a look!

Once you find the right car you wont regret it - they are fantastic! :D

In case you haven't seen it, there's also another topic on this subject labelled "Rust" under: F-Type - Bodywork, Rattles & Squeaks.

Cheers

I have just bought a 75 AWD convertible as I have been missing my old 2015 V8 after 4 years without an F-type. Naturally I have not had to worry about subframes but now I am wondering if Jaguar Upgraded the subframes at some point. If they did I guess there should be no issues with my 2023 75?
If they did not then I need to get it all Waxoyl treated or similar.

Jaguar's under-body paint protection has never been excessively generous. Hence, if this one's a keeper, it would pay to add to the basic protection of the steel components sooner rather than later. Mike.

Hi Colin,

Just to let you know, I too have recently purchased a s/h F-Type and had the same concerns regarding corrosion. However, I am taking my car to JR Classics, Doncaster, (www.jrclassics.co.uk) on Monday 21st July for a full underbody Dinatrol treatment. Have used this company before many years ago and was more than satisfied with their service. They specialise in undersealing cars, rather than a company doing it as an add on to other services provided. I will post pictures once completed. Will also be on display at the forth coming Summer Festival at Gaydon on Sunday 28th July.

Hi Mike and Doug, Thank you for your input. I am definitely in the mind to keep this car until I either A, cannot drive or B, the big man with the Sickle and hooded cloak come calling. I am not going to be using the car in the worst the UK has to offer but I will invest in some rust protection for the subframes. I had hoped Jaguar had upgraded the coating but I guess we can not rely on that.
I now just need to get the V8 to sing like my old 15 plate used to, I so missed the Orchestra on the test drive.
Cheers
