Restricted performance mode

I am trying to find the cause of my F Type going into restricted performance mode. It seems to happen when the engine revs above 3000, then the the warning triangle appears and engine is restricted to 1500 to 2000 revs. I had the fault codes read at a local garage and they thought the ones responsible for the fault were related to the throttle actuator.

Has anyone had any experience of this issue and found a solution please?

The Restricted Performance message generally indicates issues with these systems in your car:

air intake and/or throttle body
fuel system

But to investigate this further you need to use a diagnostic reader - which probably means returning to the garage to see what the car thinks the problem is. otherwise you could end up digging around in the dark as there are a list of things that could be wrong with the above in terms of sensor readings.

Thank you both for your answers. The codes identified indicated a problem with the throttle actuator. I have listed them below if these indicate what the fault may be and what it takes to fix it, please let me know.

P061F-OO is a generic diagnostic code indicating that there is a problem - it is the Internal Control Module Brake Signal Performance - which probably isn't the issue causing the restricted performance

The P2176 series are all to do with the (as you say) Throttle Actuator Control System

Common repairs include

• Replacing or cleaning throttle control motor

• Cleaning corrosion from connectors

• Repairing or replacing wiring

• Flashing or replacing PCM

It might be necessary to replace the Throttle Actuator Control however, if all it needs is a clean of the connectors then thats a quicker cheaper fix.

I agree with the throttle actuator controller codes. However, I believe that the P061F code relates to the internal control module of the throttle actuator controller. So, it seems to be pointing to the same area.

As an update to my F type restricted performance problem I thought it would be useful to post the cause of the problem and how it was solved.

Initially the throttle body was cleaned and wiring/connections cleaned and checked, this worked for a short while but restricted performance and throttle body codes appeared again.

A new throttle body was sourced and during fitting the mechanic (luckily) noticed what looked like small pieces of paper in the air intake. Further exploration led to the air filters both of which were wet and breaking up, allowing parts of the filter to get sucked into the throttle body.

I have never seen filters in this state and I don't know why or how they got so wet, (apart from driving during the wet winter here in Wales). The car is a 2015 V6 S AWD, I have owned it for just over a year. I have no information on when the air filters were previously changed and I know that the air filters are not the easiest to get at. But, if anyone experiences similar problems I would recommend checking the condition of the air filters.

Glad you finally got it sorted!

A salutary lesson for all of us - unless you've got absolute proof of when service items were done, you change all fluids and filters, engine, gearbox, fuel, diff etc, when you buy a car. You can't trust what a previous owner may have done. If I were you, I'd get all the other items changed now!
