Doug

I had not thought of that possibility, Jag supplying Ford; you would think the sales people would know a bit about their cars would you not ? I understand the salesman in a Ford or Kia showroom being clueless but Jag sales people have to deal with people like us....(well not like me I can't afford a newone) - and isn't that why Jag are building a brand new plant just 12 miles from where I live off the M54 .....

That's good to know as we put a deposit on an F Type yesterday (only the poverty model with a few nice options) so hopefully will be getting it in October (this year). Although compromised in some ways I was told to get on and make a decision by my other half, so I did  We have a loan F Type S model tomorrow for a few hours to work out how I need to change the garage around.
Also I'm very aware of the problems of corrosion on E Types and indeed modern Jaguars after a few years, I'll be really keen to work out the best way to protect it underneath etc as I intend to use it as my day car, got to be a lot more fun than my ford engined fiesta (even though I am impressed with it's 1.0 3 cylinder petrol turbo 125ps engine), maybe I should start a new thread....

Dave,

Congrats on having both the money and the good taste to order an F-Type!

Although your budget may not stretch to the preferred S model, I would recommend that you think really carefully about the options that you are ordering. Specification will be EVERYTHING when it comes to eventually selling the car. I would suggest that you go through the option list carefully and spec it to include the ones that are important to eventual buyers.

A friend of mine bought a new BMW M5 some years ago and did it on the cheap. When he sold it 18 months later, the absence of the Sat Nav and TV means that he had to virtually give it away. Sadly we are all fickle buyers and spec is everything on premium cars.

Enjoy the test weekend!

Good point Paul but....
Although budget limited, even the std F Type we've chosen comes pretty well equipped in my opinion, I've opted for updated alloys, top of the range paint and quite a few other extras to make our life using the car more enjoyable. Also, myself and Sue are not bothered about driving excessively fast or making the most of a cars handling and performance so really we're not concerned about an extra 40hp and dynamic setup and limited slip dif etc that the S model offers, it would really be wasted on us, and so the basic F is the ideal car.
Have to say the guys at Harwoods in Chichester have been first class in terms of helping us out with the price compared to the manufacturers prices, wasn't expecting that, in fact a tad easier to do business with than the ford guys I bought our fiesta off earlier this year. We're really not looking to sell any time soon though as we're buying this car as a 'keeper' hopefully 'till we don't want to drive any more... and so depreciation is what it will be, hence my comment about doing some preservation work while it's new to make it last. Thanks for all comments received, definitely looking forward to tomorrows drive. Hoping to go to the JEC IOW show on Sunday, looks like it's going to be a good one.

I suspect loud exhaust option will be most favoured by later buyers........

yes am sure you're right, I sneaked a last minute amendment in to the order. Please no more helpful suggestions on what options I should get, my piggy bank is well and truly empty now. To be honest I'd wanted to get the switchable active exhaust option but it's a lot of money but done now and am very pleased that the car we're getting is going to have the growl it deserves.... (well at least sometimes when I'm driving it that is, Sue happy to have it switched off on the test drive).

At the IOW regional show on Sunday there were 2 F Types, one S in Italian racing red (the colour we're getting) and one standard F in light blue silver metallic, both were getting a lot of attention. I've yet to see a V8 5.0 other than at the showroom It was great to also see all the E types and other Jaguars and guest cars out in force too, a very good day out.
