The stuff of nightmares. Went to open the car, an XFS X260 65 Reg, with no response. Tried with the spare keys and even changed batteries in the fob. Still no response. Opened up the fob to use the emergency key. Alarm was activated as soon as I opened the door. Followed Handbook reset instructions. Fob not recognised. In desperation, as I was now late for work, I phoned the AA. I had to uprate my cover to Home Start and then waited for their patrolman.
AA man Andrew duly arrived and was as puzzled as me. Unlike the X250 model there is no way of gaining entry to the boot to check the battery was charged. Key fob battery was checked, jump leads were attached under the bonnet to see if that would provoke the car to respond. No luck there. Andrew then decided on checking some fuses. Looking online, with me cross-referencing the handbook, we found where the immobiliser fuses were. In the front passenger footwell. Andrew took out Fuse 3, checked it and replaced it. He then took out fuse 5, checked it and replaced it too. This time the internal lights came on and Hey Presto the car was back to normal.
Andrew was then able to gain entry to the boot to check the car battery which was absolutely fine.
Has anyone else had this problem with an XF or any other Jaguar model? Was it bad luck or one too many speed bumps had slightly dislodged the fuse?

As with just about all cars with boot-mounted batteries, there are positive and negative terminals in the engine bay of your XF. I'm staggered that the AA man wouldn't know this. Familiarise yourself with the locations, so that next time you have a flat battery or lock yourself out of the boot, you can still connect a power source.

I did mention the AA man attached the jump leads to the terminals in the engine bay. The battery is in good nick. Seems, after a bit more research, it's something to do with the Body Control Module.

Car was unresponsive again yesterday. Managed to open it via the Jaguar Remote App on the phone. Pulled out and replaced Immobiliser Fuse in passenger footwell and car woke up. car in for service in 3 weeks. Hopefully all will be cured
