Can anyone tell me if there are differences between the tracking/geometry for thr XF series 1 and the XF series 2.
I do know that the series 2 has a longer wheel base. I therefore suspect that the geometry would not be the same?
I have just had my dealer check the geometry, due to excessive wear on the front outer rims. Almost slicks on outer inch. 5mm plus over remainder of the tread. Mileage 16300k Registered Apr.2016 XF 2.0D 180
The report sheet shows the tracking / geometry equipment was set up using software for the XF X240 2008-2015. I was told that there were significant changes needed to get the readings within tolerance.

Re: XF Tracking Geometry
Four wheel tracking by proficient garages include a computer database for every model. This will include the data base for the 2016 Type and MODEL YEAR.
It is also noteworthy that Jaguar vehicles seem to come out of the factory with badly aligned wheels, it is a common issue. My XF was an example. At your mileage it begs the question, some will try to blame pot holes, also your dealer seems ill informed and or ill equipped .

Re: XF Tracking Geometry
I've had good service from Hunter equipped laser tracking shops over the years -- so much so that I don't go anywhere else, especially since one told me that the updates come to them every month from Hunter. Dunno whether that's a subscription service or not though...
Every car I get (now just one more !) I consider that part of the purchase price even if there's no drift felt or tyre wear seen
Might be worth asking though, even if you're at a Hunter-equipped shop whether there's a different setup chart listed in the machine's database for a Series 1 vs Series 2?
I don't use dealers. Against my religion

Re: XF Tracking Geometry
Thanks for your thoughts.
I have previously used non-dealer outlets with laser tracking. However, this is my first foray into the 'luxury' car market, and the car (although 2nd hand) has an 'Approved' Jaguar status and warranty. Like RichardSEL I am against using dealers. And have fully maintained my family's vehicles from Ford 100E onwards through Rover P6, VW, Peugeot, Ford, Morris.
I agree with Dave (rosemary) the equipment should have the right software. If it does, the mechanic/operator/user didn't select the right one. They used the series 1 info.
So far my investigations and contacts with both the dealer and JLR customer Service has highlighted the following.
JLR CS - called Wed. "difficult to get an answer. The engineers I need to contact aren't in. I'll check with them tomorrow" to the question of different settings / geometry.
Update on Fri. "My contacts don't seem sure. I have found the settings for the series 1, but haven't found the series 2 workshop manual, or any of the change notices I would expect to find."
Status as at Mon. "There is a difference to torque settings and tracking settings. Can't give you the figures, because we don't divulge that sort of info to end customers. Send copy of final tracking measurements to us. We have a very strong case to get this sorted out for you".
Dealer Service Manager? - eventually made contact after days of telphone ping-pong. "I will look into this for you. I don't know why your car was sent off site, we have our own equipment". Any promised call from the Dealer has not been made/received.
I will add that the Jaguar customer service representative came across as one of the most professional and polite contact centre people I have ever spoken to!
