Oil in ns Turbo

Postby Zennan101 » Mon Sep 12, 2016 11:58 am

Hi,

Advice please. My 3.0d V6 Luxury XF was serviced (@56262 miles) in June by Matford Jaguar. In visual health check Under Bonnet - Leaks the following was reported. "Engine oil coming from boost pipe into ns turbo - cleaned, to monitor next service visit - Advise"
I agreed to take car back in after three months for it to be checked as it is currently under warranty but won't be at next service visit......
My question is, if oil is found again, what is the likely cause and suggested fix. As a warranty claim I would naturally like a full fix and not a workaround that come back to bite me when I have to foot the bill.

Hi, when I had my XF 3.0 diesel a garage (who shall remain nameless) said exactly the same and charged me for the privilige of cleaning the engine as it was smelling. However, when it was next serviced I had a good look around and found that they were spilling oil as it was remaining in the various casting parts! I took it back and they tried to deny it but you could see it was clean oil. They cleaned it and knocked a little bit off my service charge. Changed garages after that and problem never returned.
Hope yours is something like that. Check the nooks and crannies to see if there is oil elswhere. If it was going into the turbo then you would see smoke I would have thought?

This is why I use only maintenance men I know and trust. They know I have an engineering background which makes communication easy. I expect to be able to speak directly with the person doing the job. You are unlikely to be afforded that facility at a Main Dealer.

Long live the independent operators. They are worth their weight in gold.

Hi PPV,

Thanks for the reply. The engine bay is as clean as a whistle and blue smoke not in evidence.......

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply.
As my car is currently under a warranty it's annual service went to the main dealer. If I had gone to an independent and they had spotted the problem I'd have found my way back to the main dealer to get it fixed under warranty. I know little of the workings of a turbo so am a little in the dark as to what has been reported to me and if this is a simple problem (such as a blown seal) or more complex (such as component failure)
To be fair I have had nothing but good service from Matford Jaguar in the past and have no issue with them reporting a problem to me. I am just trying to gain a little background knowledge for the upcoming conversation.

Hi, there are many pipes to the torbo's some being oil feeds, other drains etc so it depends which one is leaking. If they are the metallic ones leaking then there are usually a sort of 'o' ring sealing them and these may have gone. No smoke of any sort would seem to indicate turbo Ok but the garage should really pinpoint it for you. I do not think there are many oil leak issues reported on the XF turbo areas but saw this note : http://www.jaginfo.org/archive/index.php/t-26418.html

Following inspection it appeared that the oil leak was persisting. Matford Jaguar scheduled my XF for repair at a convenient time to me and changed the n/s turbo boost pipe under warranty with no fuss and without any discussion. Great customer service to me and a great example of Jaguar doing things right first time.
