Handbrake/Electronic Park Brake

I was reading the answer to the question on the brake pad sensors in this months magazine. If the EPB is the same system as on the S.Type you only have to press down on the park brake switch whilst removing the ignition key and this puts the system in service mode ie park brake off.

Hello Jeff.

I`ve seen that done on an XF at my local independent garage. Same as on the later electronic handbrake S-type.

Hi Mike
That said, I wonder why XJK refers to Jaguar diagnostics to reset the handbrake to service mode?

Perhaps maintenance garages would rather we didn`t know how to do these things ourselves.....?

That's a very interesting solution. As the XF doesn't have an ignition key, would you just press the EPB whilst pressing the engine off button at the same time to achieve the same effect?

The reason I ask is that my EPB has been acting strangely today and this knowledge might just come in handy!

A very valid point and as you say, without a key to switch the ignition on and off, how is it done? I`m wondering if the chap I saw do the job did have an OBD unit in the car which I didn`t see.

Be that as it may, this link to relining might be useful to you.
