Morning All,
Today if you did not know is Groundhog Day, but I will ask this question "only once!" - (visions of Michelle from the resistance in a beret!)....
So when my winter wheels and tyres eventually get removed in March or so I will also need to be fitting front disc pads, I am hoping that the discs themselves should be OK after only 20k miles.
So what are your recommendations on replacement pads please - there are a lot of different options on Ebay and the like and I expect some of you out there have had experience on XF's or other Jags
Any thoughts gents...
Thanks

Re: Replacement Disc Pads
I've used PAGID which worked well and recently I actually used a slightly cheaper pad with MINTEX which seems to be performing really well. In fact the combination of Mintex pads and discs not only performs well and has a great price point but it has also fixed my braking judder issues!

Re: Replacement Disc Pads
I agree.
Correct me if I am wrong but the original pads and discs often fitted at the factory are supplied by Mintex as OE material.
There are some great deals around on ebay as I`ve just found. For my X350R with Brembo calipers, the front Jaguar OE pads run out at around £40 from Berkshire Jaguar Components. Neville Anderson at North East Jaguar Spares sent me a set of Mintex OE front pads just over a year ago for £35 plus a bit of post and packing.
Trawling the internet last week, I decided to buy some replacement stock to put on the shelf. I managed to get the same front Mintex pads on a clearance deal for just £15.48. The rear pads were not so heavily discounted but came for around £20. The normal price is around £28. The secret when searching is to buy material that is positively stated to be OE grade. The deals are out there to be had. Indeed I`ve just sent Nigel an article about internet buying and the techniques I use to get best deals. That will perhaps figure in the X350 magazine pages in due course.
Also search for complete brake disc and pad set deals. Search by make, model, Vin Number, model year or where known, part number. Double check the part number on another site to confirm suitability. I often use British Parts site to source the correct part number, then just type that number into your search box which may well hit the spot instantly and find you quality parts at rock bottom prices.
I`ve used Mintex discs and pads for over ten years on my Jags without any issue what so ever. No grumbles at all. Note there are wear limit markings on the periphery of a disc. That will show the amount of material still on the disc and the limit of safe and continued use.
Brake wear is down to driver style and whether the brakes operate in town or motorway use. It is therefore often difficult to say how long a particular disc and pad set will last on a particular model. Only inspection of those limit indicators on the disc will reveal the true extent of disc or pad wear on the car in question. No two cars are ever the same so inspection of disc and pads is really the only way to proceed.

Re: Replacement Disc Pads
Also worth noting with Mintex that they have an iPhone App that has a full catalogue by car. It helped me a great deal to identify the exact pads, disks and sensor.

Re: Replacement Disc Pads
Ray, I shall only ask this question once. What makes you think the front brake pads need replacing at 20k miles ?
In my experience this seems a little premature, in fact quite a bit premature.
New pads start with 10mm of material , plus the thickness of the backing plate. Often pads can be visually examined through the wheel using a torch and mirror.
Will you be doing this job your self or will it be sub contracted ?
