electric Hand Brake Re-setting

Postby CET226 » Sun Oct 13, 2019 6:12 pm

I have a XF/X250. 2.2L, 2014 Plate Portfolio Sportsbrake and I am about to fit new discs and pads all round. For guidance I found a good video on youtube showing the procedure being carried out on a 2012 saloon model. At the end of the film the presenter said : All you need to do now is reset the electric hand brake by the following method. Disconnect the negative battery lead (the large battery I assume), reconnect after 30 seconds, pump the foot-brake to engage the pads, apply and release the hand brake lever as instructed on the screen. He also said you would have to reset the windows etc. but gave no indication how. My question is : Is the handbrake reset procedure correct and what other things need resetting after a battery disconnection and how does the DIY man do it. Many Thanks David

I am fairly sure you don't need to do all that, from memory you just apply the footbrake and then the parking brake, with brake pedal depressed. That was with earlier models though, so it may have changed by 2014..
