Electric Hand Brake

2009 XF

Every now and then I get the message up on the panel saying that I cannot use the electric hand brake, this message comes with both a red and amber warning lights on the display. The problem is intermittent but I have had one occasion when the hand brake has stuck on. After leaving the car for about an hour and trying again the hand brake disengaged. I am now not using the hand brake as I am worried that it could jam on again. I have renewed the rear disc's and Pads hoping that would be some of the problem but no I still am getting this alarm. I cant see anything on the web to show how you can disengage the brake if stuck in the on position. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what would be the best cure?

regards

Not sure about the Jag but on other makes there issues with the electric actuators which need lubricating. I had my XF for 3 years but fortunately never had an issue. That is the trouble with these 'complicated' modern systems.
Not much help I'm afraid.

If it makes you feel better my 2010 XF has the same problem and I get the same error message as you from time to time. I have learned to live with it as it seems to reset itself but I have never had the brake stick ‘On’ only that the ‘Handbrake can’t be set’.

In cases like this sometimes the disconnecting of the battery for 10 minutes will allow the car to reset itself. I would try this but also ensure the battery is fully charged also.
