Rear Brakes

Postby rosemary » Thu Nov 12, 2015 5:34 pm

The "Brake Pads Low" warning came up on the Information Centre a couple of days ago so reverted to the S-Type.
I knew the rears were getting low ref my previous problem with excess brake dust on the front offside resulting from a pad breaking up, so assumed it was the rear. So jacked car up and removed the rear offside wheel and removed the brake pads.
yes they were worn and the sensor head had been worn away sufficient to expose the contact wires. Interestingly the amount of pad left on all four pads was 4mm (new 10mm) so a good margin when the alarm annunciates. All four with even wear is also reassuring in respect of the floating bolt system on the calliper. The S-types corrode and seize ,these seem a better design. One thing that delayed is the pitch of the locating holes in the Piston, they are narrower than the two alternatives I have on my Laser Screw Back tool. I had to modify the locating pins on the tool. :)

Seen that before myself. Frustrating when details get changed and then a tool does not fit. Then you have the nause of trying to find a tool that does.

Hello Mike
Nice to hear from you. Yes the tool was frustrating but at least I have the tool now to fit both the XF and the S-Type.Took me fifteen minutes to do the other side. Just love the slider bolts on this make of caliper.
