Auto trans fluid change

I have just purchased a 2009 XF 3.0 d with 78000 miles,it would appear from other posts that it is recommended to change the auto trans fluid.How much would this cost at a jaguar specialist.

Costs will vary from repairer to repairer usually dependent upon their hourly rate.

When Tom Lenthall gave my XJR a gearbox oil service two years ago, the cost was around £340 plus VAT. This included a genuine ZF filter and oil, the wiring collar and laptop set up after the job.

My car had a similar mileage when I had the job done. ZF recommend each and every 60k mileage inverval oil changes, so for the future this is a better mileage period to bring into play.

Note two forms of oil changing regime are operated. A straight filter and oil change which changes the majority of oil but leaves some in the oil cooler system and the torque converter. That is what I had done. The second is known as "full flush" treatment which uses a special oil change machine to also flush the converter and oil cooler system. That process is rather more expensive and requires a garage to have that specialist equipment. The first option in my experience is sufficient for the perpose given the lowish mileage of your car.

Hi, avoid a main dealer for this as they will overcharge you generally. What is your location? I would recommend Bob Bate for this job, he has done mine on 2 cars now, but unless you are near Birkenhead probably not much use...

Hi not near Birkenhead other side of country near hull,there is a jaguar specialist in hull called jag Utech so I will take it there.Out of interest how much did you pay,thanks for reply.

On my X350 XJ8 the main jaguar dealer agreed to match the price of the quote I'd got from an independent. If you are a regular customer it pays to ask! Cost about £450 (inc VAT) a couple of years ago - cheaper now as more people are having it done.

I paid around £350-£400 all in I think, the fluid is eye wateringly expensive...

You might consider purchasing the sump / filter and fluid yourself and taking it to a specialist to undertake the work. Kits of the sump / filter and fluid can be purchased quite readily. Expect to pay about £200 for an OEM kit and fluid. If you find the OE sump / filter at more competitive prices, you can buy the Lifeguard 6 fluid for about £11 per litre now. My local main dealer is happy for me to purchase the items and then just charge me about an hours labour to fit. So lots of options.
