Parking Sensors

Hello all,

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this. From time to time when there has been wet weather, my XF's parking sensors will not work. The car will come up with a message stating that they are unavailable and I should consult my dealer.

However, they normally fix themselves with a bit of dry weather. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this and if they knew an easy fix. I can only assume that water is getting into one of the sensors and in turn disrupting the connection, making them all temporarily fail.

Is there perhaps a product on the market which can solve this and helps to protect them from rainwater - at the same time, not rendering them useless.

Jaguars aren't the smallest cars, so the sensors are a big help.

Any advice would be great.

We have never had this with the XF, but occasionally the XJ used to do this, especially when the weather was wet and cold. The solution was to take out all the sensors, clean the connectors with electrical contact cleaner, and seal them with heat shrink. Unfortunately this involves removing the plastic bumper cover, looking at our XF, it seems likely that it is also the case with these.

Thanks for coming back to me Phil.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure I've got the technical knowhow to remove the rear bumper cover. At least without making a very poor job of it.

I was hoping there was some sort of product, spray, etc. which could make them more watertight.

If anyone knows of a simple solution, for someone not very technical, that would be great.

Make sure the area surrounding each sensor is clean, debris can build up in there and it does affect them sometimes, as it is a water trap. Simplest is using an old toothbrush gently around each sensor. Worth a try anyway.

This is obviously an old problem, presumably resolved, but with any similar electrical problem apparently caused by damp I would saturate the area with WD40. It worked on all my ancient cars from the 60's onwards so "ought" to work on a modern Jag.
