This morning unlocked the car and climbed in. Car showing ‘Boot Open’ (that shouldn’t have been possible as the car doesn’t lock with the boot open......) Boot wouldn’t stay closed. Started the car then boot would close and lock. Made my outbound journey and car locked OK. When unlocking to make return journey boot popped open when doors unlocked. Again couldn’t get the boot to close until the engine was running. Returned to base and locked car. Around two hours later the car alarm went off. No prizes for guessing that the boot had opened itself and triggered the alarm. The boot allowed itself to be closed without the engine running and the car has now locked.
Any suggestions as to where the fault is likely to lie. I am puzzled by the fact that the boot had opened itself once without triggering the alarm but opened itself a second time triggering the alarm. The boot can be opened from the key fob so the electronic mechanism hasn’t completely failed.
Boot opening on its own.

Rod - I have heard before that the loom is a bit fragile where it is constantly flexed by opening and shutting the boot. Its possible that you have a broken wire or a short which is causing your issue.
As I recall all of the wires are black so good luck tracing the wrong 'un!!
Alternative may be to replace that section of loom? I've a feeling that it is available
Hope that helps

Re: Boot opening on its own.
Hi David,
Thanks for the suggestion. I was aware of this issue but I think (hope!) this is probably not the culprit this time as I replaced the loom only last year to fix a a rear camera 'blue screen'. I made sure all the bodywork cut outs were well protected on refitting the loom as the cable runs were not protected by Jaguar!
First step will be a full visual inspection for anything obvious and I'll go from there.
