Outside temperature gauge

Postby madamz » Wed Feb 07, 2018 2:24 pm

Hello
I have a XF 3 litre diesel with about 30000 miles on the clock, my problem is that the outside temperature gauge on occasions decides that it is -15 degrees or more (less) and the car heater wants to warm the car up which makes it a bit hot. I have looked at the detector in the wing mirror and i waggled the wiring form in the mirror with no effect. I think it is either a broken wire or a bad connection somewhere. It can work fine for months and then gives this false reading for no apparent reason. Has anyone else had this problem who can point me in the right direction ?

Is the outside temp sensor not located somewhere down behind the front bumper cover? Does its reading not show on the same display as the internal heater level on the control screen? Just an initial idea. Sorry, don`t have an XF but the car in many respects is very similar to the modern face-lift S-types.

Your problem may lie in the loom between the body and the door. Unfortunately until you can take some continuity readings you will not know.
It could also be the sensor in the mirror breaking down.

Thanks for your replies, the detector is in the wing mirror. It looks like I will have to start taking off my door panel.
