2008 2.7d Smoke and engine noise

Hello all,
Whilst on the search for a Jaguar project, I spotted this on eBay:

Has anyone got any insight into this - does it sound like new engine time? - or could there be another explanation?
Given the low mileage and condition of the rest of the car it may well be worth a closer look.
I do really like the XF and very much enjoyed a trip to the factory when they first came out, to see the new model being built. It'll either be a late X-Type or XF when it's time to replace my trusty 2004 Rover 75 CDTi.
