Hi David

Had a 2.7d manual in a S before the XF and understand that the 3.0d has sequential turbos to increase throttle response and also improve torque at lower revs and reduce the hole in the rev band where not much happened. So think the 2nd generation 3.0 engine had good increase in power and torque but with lower emissions and better mpg.

Hello Mike
I'm actually happy with the power of my 2.7d S_Type and if I come across a XF with a 2.7d that meets my requirement I will seriously consider it knowing now that the 3.0d has a Cam Belt. There seems no advantage to having a 3.0d only insofar as a bit of increased power and perhaps a marginally better fuel economy . Reliability and the ability to get 150k plus without crushing repair bills is the main criteria. I know what goes wrong with the 2.7d drive train and suspension and more or less when. Suspension and hub problems seen to be replicated in the XF , but I have no knowledge of the Drive Train yet. I am looking.

Hi all. Had the cam-belt and idlers all replaced at 107k miles by PJG Autos in Bristol. Thankfully the belt and pulleys all looked good, but I'm glad its done. PJG were very reasonable too. :D
First Jag was an LPG X308 XJ8; now have an XF 3.0D. I enjoy doing my own maintenance.
