XF Sportbrake 2012 2.2D Engine Oil

Postby sharpcobsrus779 » Sat Jan 27, 2024 11:49 am

Hi, My XF has a full Jaguar service history but as I have been quoted £400 for a basic oil change service at my local ( Grange Jaguar Brentwood) Jaguar I thought I might do the service myself. However choosing the right oil seems to be a minefield. The manual states 5w-30 Castrol Edge Professional but there are many variants to that. In addition Grange put 0w-30 Castrol Edge in it last service so am a bit lost on what to buy, any help appreciated. I believe it does have a DPF. Regards Greg.

Hi Greg,
Well I have the 3.0D so I do not have direct experience of what Jaguar recommend for the 2.2, but you are right to be cautious. The specification will be specific to the fact that the DPF is there, it sounds like you are already aware of that. You need to look beyond the basic 5W-30 which is just a viscosity definition and look for the actual oil specification. In the case of the 3.0D it is WSS M2 C934B which is actually a Ford spec I think and is tagged by JLR as JLR 03.5005. I hope I have that right.
For comparison, the equivalent 5w - 30 spec for some of the high powered petrol engines of the period was JLR 03.5003.

So please check exactly what yours should be and then you will find the detail of which manufacturer specs a given oil meets if you look at the small print on the can or indeed in on-line descriptions. I found Petronas Syntium 5000 FJ, Mobil 3000 C1, Shell Ultra C1 or Castrol Edge C1 all meet the C934B specification for my XF 3.0D. But it is the suffix which is crucial (FJ or C1).

Here are a coulple of oil info websites that might help.
https://www.opieoils.co.uk/
https://oilincar.com/
Both have been useful to me in the past.
Good luck.
