Engine Oil Type

Postby KevNoble » Fri Apr 04, 2014 5:45 pm

I have just acquired and XF 3.0D and wish to know what oil I should use for top-ups: the Castrol website says rather helpfully "refer to dealer" and other websites say Castrol Edge professional 5w-30, although all I can seem to buy is ("non-professional") Edge 5w-30 - is this the same stuff? Thanks

Hi Kev

My 3.0D S has just been serviced at XJK. They used Castrol SPX Professional Powerflow 5W-30.

As an alternative I also looked up my registration number on the Morris Lubricants website, they recommend their on C-ONE 5W30 product. Again a good question for next weekends seminar. I will report back...

Further to my post above, I could not find Castrol Edge Professional anywhere for my XF3.0D, so I eventually bought Shell Helix 5W30 (which also conforms to WSS M2C934-B) on-line from Eurocarparts. Since the last oil change, the car's fuel consumption has improved noticeably: I regularly achieve over 50mpg at 70mph in cruise control.
