New player on transfer

Not exactly a new boy - have just parted with the four wheeled love of my life - my S-Type 3.0Ltr Sport - and purchased a 2010 XF 3.0ltr (petrol) which looks as though it will be a long term affair. We are still getting to know each other at the moment - so I will reveal more later.....
In the meantime - need to update the satnav and frankly shuddered at the cost of Jaguar update discs for the UK. I have seen other companies advertising on the interwebnet for update discs at £25.00 ? I'm sure someone will have experience of these and would really welcome some advice .

Hello Clive and welcome to the XF Forum

I (and everyone else) will be interetsed to hear about your new purchase, particularly with it being the rarer 3 litre petrol guise.

As for the Sat Nav update I have heard of numerous owners buying the cheaper alternatives on offer and few having any issues. I never use my Sat Nav so haven't updated but I should think if you go for a well established company the DVD should work fine. Hopefully another member will provide a recommendation but do let us know how things go.

Wow Rictus - that's what I call a leaper in your picture!!! That must sorely test the old bill's goodwill ? It seems my new girl is the same colour as in your picture also! Will wait to see if there are a few more replies about the satnav and then take a decision - thanks for your response.

Hi again - I bought the 'alternate' update satnav dvd from a company called satnavdisc.co.uk - which arrived in a couple of days. Although described by them as not being 'Jaguar original' - it came with exactly all the same printed information on the disc label as the one I took out - except that the dates were shown as 2014-2015. (if it waddles like duck and quacks like a duck then it probably is ???) It installed very easily in 14 mins (their information said it could take up to 55 mins) and was straight up and running having identified the car's new home. I checked the memory and found that the previous owner had left a few addresses etc in there and so deleted those to replace with my own.(Did the same with the phone too - worth bearing in mind when transferring your vehicle these days!!). Have yet to use it on a proper run but seems to know where it is and where it can go too - so altogether a very worthy exercise so far.

Time for a bit of an update on the new relationship. I have a long history with Jaguar - going back to the 1960/70s - and have never really recovered from my first serious affair with a Mark 2. (lust and love and all that). My preceding S-Type was the closest I have come to recreating that early infatuation despite driving almost every (non supercar) marque over the following years. I will freely admit that I was not particularly bowled over by the XF when it appeared and it was way too much money new for me anyway. I did not like the XJ either when it appeared - (especially the time of the rectangular headlights!) but later incarnations returned the car to something I thought more appropriate to Sir Bill's ethos. Anyway, I was looking for a late production run S-Type (petrol) and by seismic changes of fate ended up with the XF!! To my mind, it is very much a Jaguar in the true sense and meaning of the word in motoring jargon. Space, pace and grace in spades. Drives rather like I had thought a modern Mark 2 would (although I suspect Mr Callums redesigned Mark 2 is probably the business). I have some reservations about the advanced electronics - having grown up through amazing developments in technological electronics and experienced many of the problems (as a user) along the way - I worry about the lifespan of the electronics - but then I am advancing in years and that's the sort of thing us old codgers do worry about. So far, as a drive, I am not disappointed at all - I have no real dislikes or faults to comment on. I am now totally convinced by the shape, design and colour and look forward to putting the driveability to the test in some forthcoming long and varied trips. More later if you can stand it!!
