XF Newbie!

Hello,

My name is Steve and I have been a JEC member since 1995 (aged 32) when I purchased a Mark 2 3.8 for restoration which was completed in 1999 and I still own.

In 1997 I purchased a XJ40 4.0 petrol with 130,000 miles which I sold in 2000 with 182,000 miles, head gasket was the only problem which I replaced myself. Average 22.5 mpg and a pint of oil every 6,000 miles!

In 2000 I sold the XJ40 and purchased a 7 month old S Type 3.0 V6 SE with 10,000 miles on the clock from a Jaguar dealer, it was fully loaded, 113,000 miles later (123K on the clock) and only problems since purchasing being: rear brake light module replacement, induction rubber hose replacement and 1 door solenoid failure. Finally last week the auto gearbox started slipping in reverse and not going into top gear, £2000 to repair which is more than the car is worth so sadly it sits in my garden in immaculate condition. What to do with it I really don't know!

The S Type has been displaced by my 2008 XF 2.7D Luxury with 72,000 miles and a full dealer history which was purchased last Friday from a local chap via AutoTrader. Four previous owners and only the flexible exhaust to cat joints replaced in January this year. Going in for a B service (90,000 but because of its age, 6 years) on Friday.

120 miles covered so far and it's showing 37 mpg! My S Type would have been around the 20 mpg mark, it never went over 27 mpg on a tank full so I am looking forward to more economical Jaguar ownership.
