Buying advice requested - XF estate

Postby PhilT » Sun Apr 11, 2021 9:43 pm

Hi
I can't find any issues to look out for except the need for a cambelt and big service at 90,000 (I see many advertised at 85,000!).
Anything else I should look out for?
I'd love the performance of the diesel 3.0 litre S, but is it noticeably better than the standard 3 litre diesel and will I have to live with stiffer suspension and noisy, harsh low profile tyres?
Is it worth holding out for the portfolio, is there really that much extra than on the premium luxury?
All advice gratefully received.
Phil

All depends on your budget I guess, I love the Sportbrake, it is largely ignored now because everyone wants SUVs instead, but if the lower driving position is not an issue then they are really good value for money. Mine was 12 months old at purchase with just 5000 miles, for less than half the cost new. The newer Ingenium engines are a gem in petrol form, if you can stretch to that, if older then agree go for diesel as older petrol models are thirsty.

Hi Phil - I can't particularly give you buying advice but I did have a 2011 3.0 diesel S for a while and loved it. It really shifts but could still do over 40mpg if driven in a more gentlemanly fashion.
I don't recall the ride as being harsh. The car I had was on 19" wheels I think which is probably the sensible compromise.
Mine was a saloon and most say that the Sportbrake handles better because I think it has air suspension on the rear?
