Thought I should introduce myself, having recently joined the club because I bought a 2004 XJ8.

It’s not been 3 weeks yet but I have thoroughly enjoyed every mile so far.
I bought the car in Lichfield (I’m near Glasgow) and it would appear that the previous owner was a JEC member.

Unfortunately I never met him as the car was being sold on his behalf by his daughter due to his poor health.

I fully intend to do a lot if not all of the maintenance myself.

Any recommendations for an OBD device?

Regards

David

Hi David and welcome.

I personally use an iCarSoft reader which does most things I want it to, but does not match dealer level diagnostics.

I think mine is the 930, but there is also the LR3.0.
Topdon are getting a good report at the moment too and also Foxwell but I have no personal experience of those

There are some PC or laptop based software systems but you start getting into silly money for those

I would suggest that one of the portable units I mentioned above would do most of what you will need.

Let us know what you decide to go with, reasons why and how you get on with it.

Search this group to find other threads on this topic and also the modern xk thread

Cheers
Tony

Hi David. I see you intend to do most maintenance yourself. If you do need professional help, I can strongly recommend Prestige Jaguar in Paisley for general work and Mackies in Tollcross in Glasgow for gearbox service. I have no connection with either but have used both in the past as I live in the west of Scotland. Glad you are enjoying your new car. Have you got a pic to upload?

Regards

Ian.
